Richard joined BMLL not long after a new Board and CEO began breathing new life into the business, with the first objective of stabilising and strengthening their Cloud (AWS) Infrastructure Engineering capability. BMLL productise historical financial market data together with many derived metrics which can be accessed via a Feed, a Quant Lab, or a Visualisation Platform. Every day this data ‘lake’ gets bigger, and the ongoing challenges to work at huge scales with cost efficiency, reliability and scalability grow steadily greater. BMLL is thriving in 2025 having completed 2 major funding rounds since Richard joined. Today Richard makes a leading contribution in areas such as: * Core Platform and SDLC architecture and roadmaps * InfoSec processes and tooling (including ISO/ISMS) * Proactive Cloud Cost Management * Technical leadership

Business Model and Investor Deck input
The initial objective is to raise investment appropriate to a Business Plan such that the first commercial iteration of the business can be delivered and operated. Commercial solar projects (behind-the-meter) are themselves nothing new, but our innovative financing plans and scalable, commoditised delivery pipeline will be. Richard's overall goal here is to help build the industry's most scalable and efficient project pipeline by leveraging appropriate and innovative technology, processes and people. A secondary goal is to deliver consistent and highly-efficient O&M processes across all our PV installations.

TrustVault was the first product brought to market by Trustology (2019). This incredibly secure cryptocurrency wallet combines its security (and optional insurance) with ground-breaking ease-of-use and convenience. This wallet, and the bespoke services it utilises, will become an essential part of the growing DeFi ecosystem as decentralised finance makes inroads into 'traditional' financial markets and services. TrustVault's architecture has three tiers: a mobile App, various cloud-based APIs, and bespoke cryptographic services operating in highly-secure datacenters. Richard contributed 2 years to the project in a variety of roles, from 'Day One' and the initial hypothesis through to delivering retail and institutional services. Richard's regular 'domain' became, broadly-speaking, the associated infrastructure and operational services.

CoE Marketing and Strategy
The AA has a perhaps historic role of providing roadside assistance to UK motorists. Richard was engaged by AA, via Zensar Technologies to 'seed' the beginnings of an internal DevOps 'Centre of Excellence'. The first product that would benefit from this 'CoE' would be the AA's primary marketing website and, in particular, the associated Content Management processes. Working mostly on-site, Richard evangelised the benefits that the CoE and the associated culture would bring, published a first roadmap, and mentored its first members. Richard then supervised Agile delivery of capabilities as pertaining to the marketing website. Richard then 'handed the keys' over to the AA. Since then the CoE has proceeded to win an industry award and become a cornerstone of the AA's IT strategy. National Grid manage the distribution of electricity and gas across the UK. With support from Zensar Technologies, Richard led a consultation at NG to produce a roadmap for further improving efficiency, scalability and quality across their software development teams. After many rounds of discussions with stakeholders, the resulting blueprint described a central DevOps capability with the associated organisation structure, governance model, service catalog, transition plan and on-boarding process. Many lessons learned also fed-back to Zensar Technologies and shaped the continued emergence of their best practices.

Richard became effectively an analyst for these operations teams by capturing and owning their requirements. He also evangelised for increased automation of change and operational process and was Project Manager for an increasing number of operational tools. The program is called Halo and has become a cornerstone of PwC's assurance capability.

Richard teamed-up with the founder and CEO of lendery.co in order to bring the benefit of his technical experience to this startup, which wanted to scale and needed a technologist to help achieve this. Richard started by securing the codebase for the private equity marketplace and deploying a number of improvements. Then, attention turned to architecting a marketplace for P2P loans in order to secure seed investment. A series of Proof-of-Concept products were produced and tested with potential investors, together with a technical roadmap that would facilitate scaling the service to levels appropriate to the business model. Richard's involvement was relatively brief - approximately 3 months - but was a fascinating introduction to startup culture.
